Onesimus Children's Ministries:
A Hope for Malawian Streetkids
Founded by Brandy LaClare-Phiri, Casey Peters and the International Christian Assembly (ICA), Onesimus exists to provide means to rescuing children living on the street and repatriate them to stable family environments through activities that provide hope and meaning in life.
The ministry looks after street children in Lilongwe, both boys and girls. The organization however, has a higher percentage in the boy’s ratio. These children are found on the streets and later taken to the children’s center. The ministry only looks after nine children at a time in a designated care home. The children that are taken in have to go through a screening process which involves parental or guardian clearance. Most of the children found in the home are orphans but higher percentages come from broken homes or situations of poverty.
At the moment the ministry is appealing for any type of support for the community. They need people who can work with them such as voluntary teachers, voluntary sportsmen and women, musicians and people who can be role models to these children. The children need people who can relate with them positively and help them rebuild their lives.
Established in 1999, the ministry hopes to see the lives of the children transformed in the power of God as history makers. Onesimus focuses on the welfare of the child by looking into issues such as HIV/AIDS, life Skills, education and careers, spiritual matters and child and parent or guardian reconciliation.
