Fredokiss is?
I am that ordinary hood fella, a poet, a rose growing on concrete and most of all the future which starts from now.

Describe your hip hop?
It’s more of a ghetto mouth piece, relevant and mainstream with a theme of love in general dominating. Ghetto in the sense that it is the everyday ghetto issues that inspire or reveal the songs I write. It is relevant becoz someone out there would easily relate to and mainstream becoz it’s neither underground nor commercial in that sense. So, ma Hip Hop is relevant Hip Hop; with a meaning.

You have currently two new singles out, ‘Sad Song’ and ‘Happy Place,’ who is behind your production?
Dare Devils is behind most of ma production, Sad song was produced by them and recorded by Goodson Gomonda before leaving for the states while Happy Place is a Dare devils piece.

What was going through your mind when you wrote ‘Sad Song?’
Sadness and the illusion of hope mixed with some ghetto realism. The song has a sad story line that is real almost everywhere. Behind the scenes there is that mother who happens to be an archetypal character. She is everywhere hoping, wishing and anticipating for the good in life but guess what? It always turns out to be a mirage. Watch the video!

You have always done your music with your crew Slim, Jasco and JB, why did you decide to do this one solo?
U aint nothing without your homeboys! Jasco is on sad song, JB is on a number of tracks in ma album and so is Slim. However, personal growth is also vital, solo projects also help one in defining thyself more clearly. This emanates from the freedom to explore your ideas full blast.

Coming from tracks like ‘Basi’ how different is the new the album from that sound?
Maturity and the growing audience. This time around everybody knows urban music and especially Hip hop has an audience unlike the ‘Basi’ days, we were doing it for the love of the game but now it’s also for the fans. So! Give them what they deserve and that’s the best.

What are your thoughts on the local music industry?
We taking over, look around, listen to the radio, it’s all urban. We even gat Lucius in cornrows. What more can a brother say, the local music industry is becoming more and more urban day by day. In my view it’s only Lucius and The Blacks who can temporarily stand the storm. Otherwise open your eyes and see.

What more can we expect from Fredokiss this year?
